Michael & Nayeli Kolean
Mike and Nayeli Kolean are missionaries in Guadalajara, Mexico. Mike was born and raised in Holland, MI, and Nayeli was born and raised in Guadalajara, MX they met in Guadalajara, and we're married spring of 2021.
Mike was called to Guadalajara in 2019 to evangelize and help the local church through English and kid's programs. That is when he met the love of his life, and the rest is history!
They both love adventures in nature, teaching kids, and growing in their faith.
Our focus in ministry, which we have seen God confirm for us repeatedly, is KIDS. So we are super excited to serve them, teach them, and be taught by them as we follow God's calling in our life in Mexico.
Kid's Club:
The kid's club is where we focus on teaching English with games and activities to create relationships with our neighbors. We have the club on the terrace in the middle of our neighborhood to maximize exposure, space, and freedom. We have over ten students as we seek to reach them and their parents to evangelize.
Centro 180 (local church):
We serve in Centro 180's kid's program. We felt God calling us to this local church to help them with many things, specifically in the kid's area. We will also be teaching teenagers on Sunday mornings when we are not teaching the kids and leading the young adult's program once a month on Saturdays.
Small groups:
We have two small groups we are supporting. The first one is Nayeli's group, a discipleship group with three other ladies. They currently go to our church and have been friends with Nayeli's family for quite some time but are looking to grow in their faith and learn their purpose with God.
My friend's other group started in our neighborhood and asked us to help lead it with him. He has the vision to reach his neighbors and share Jesus with them. We are super excited to join him in this vision as it is ours too!
We plan to lead more groups or help others start groups as God leads us.
Outreach:
We have been giving out bags of essentials through COVID, but now we are changing it up. We are focusing on a public hospital in our community where people have many needs. We give food/water to those waiting outside and talk to them about life/Jesus. Because only one person can go into the hospital at a time and only for certain hours of the day, everyone is outside. This is also a very low-income area where not everyone can afford food or not go to work while they wait for the person in the hospital.
We also are giving out water bottles with a message of hope to people on the street or window washers. People here don't beg; they typically want to sell you something, wash your car, or help you park in a big parking lot. SO instead of giving them money(3 or 4 pesos), we provide them with this water bottle. Along with the message of hope, we have locations of two local churches with their Facebook information so they can get more help or if they want to find a community or however God wants to use it.
