Laurisa Huebert
Laurisa plays an integral role in the day-to-day operation of El Refugio (The Refuge), a safe home for girls who are rescued from situations of trafficking, abuse, neglect, and prostitution. It was founded by her parents, Randy and Sandra Huebert, in 2008. Along with providing hands-on care for the girls through counseling, prayer, and translating, Laurisa manages many of the behind-the-scenes daily operations of the home including cooking, cleaning, and sorting, as well as organizing and communicating for ministry in the community. By doing so, Laurisa contributes to meeting the physical, spiritual, emotional, and educational needs of these young women. At The Refuge, the team makes it a safe, loving, and encouraging environment that is reflective of the Kingdom of God, and that ultimately equips girls and young women.
Laurisa moved from Canada to Ensenada, Mexico with her family when she was 8 years old. Laurisa grew up in the ministry and attended school in Mexico, including obtaining her Bachelor of Psychology degree from the University of Baja California. Living in Mexico has not always been easy, but as she trusts in God she knows that He is always with her and He will guide and help in all circumstances.
