Rebekah Welsh

Rebekah is originally from Sooke, BC, but now lives in the Pokomchi village of Nisnic, near San Cristobal, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. She is working with the organization, Hope of the Pokomchi. In Pokomchi, the organization is known as Asociacion Sakombal Pokon (ASOSAP).

Rebekah was first connected with the organization when she went on a missions trip with them in March 2015. During that trip, she was introduced, by the founders of Hope of the Pokomchi, to a nurse running a children’s home for girls with special needs in San Cristobal. God then called her to work with the children’s home. Rebekah became a missionary with CTEN and in January 2016 she moved to Guatemala. It was a huge, unexpected life change, but one fully arranged by God. She continued to have a great relationship with staff of Hope of the Pokomchi. After the work with the children’s home finished, she was invited to work with Hope of the Pokomchi. She started working with them in November 2016. She is continually amazed at God’s faithfulness and provision in bringing this all together. Rebekah is excited to continue working alongside the Pokomchi people.

More about Hope of the Pokomchi and Rebekah’s role with them:
Motivated by Christ’s love, Hope of the Pokomchi partners with the Pokomchi people to help them reach their God given potential. They are one of the smallest and least developed indigenous Mayan people groups in Guatemala. Rates of malnutrition, poverty, infant mortality, and illiteracy are high, higher than national rates. Life expectancy is lower than the national average. The organization works with the people in health services, education and empowerment, construction projects for improved health and quality of life, pastor/church leader discipleship, and gospel outreach. God’s love is shown to the Pokomchi. The hope is that they would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and share the gospel with others.
